Side Effect of Weight Loss Injections: Rapid Weight Loss Causes Sagging in Face and Neck
At the 34th National Dermatology Congress held in Antalya, experts reported that rapid weight loss caused by weight loss injections can lead to muscle loss as well as sagging in the face and neck areas.
At the 34th National Dermatology Congress held in Antalya, experts drew attention to the risks brought by weight loss injections, which have gained popularity in recent years. It was stated that rapid weight loss reduces not only adipose tissue but also muscle mass, and can lead to deformities in the face and neck areas.
Speaking at the 34th National Dermatology Congress organized by the Turkish Society of Dermatology in Antalya, Prof. Dr. Özlem Su Küçük emphasized that injection treatments for weight loss must be carried out under physician supervision. Küçük pointed out that while such drugs create rapid weight loss, they decrease muscle mass as well as adipose tissue. It was stated that the reduction of adipose tissue in the face can cause sunken cheeks, hollows under the eyes, dark circles, wrinkles, and sagging in the face and neck areas. In order to prevent this appearance, known among the public as "Ozempic face", experts advised consuming 1 to 1.5 grams of protein per kilogram of daily body weight, doing resistance exercises, and drinking enough water. It was noted that dietary supplements must definitely be used upon expert recommendation.
Stating that a dermatology specialist can be consulted in case prominent sagging and wrinkles form on the face after rapid weight loss, Prof. Dr. Küçük reported that applications such as PRP and fillers can be evaluated when necessary. Conveying that aesthetic procedures must be planned by specialist physicians according to the individual's needs, Küçük warned that consulting unauthorized persons could cause serious health problems. In addition, it was added that the uncontrolled use of herbal products and vitamin supplements could lead to skin reactions, drug interactions, and negative effects on the liver and kidneys.
