According to data from the German Federal Statistical Office, Germany's total trade volume with Russia decreased by 86 percent in the first half of 2026 compared to the same period in 2021, falling from 27.7 billion euros to 3.9 billion euros. This sharp decline in imports and exports has also been reflected in corporate partnerships, direct flights, and migration data between the two countries.

According to data released by the German Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), Germany's imports from Russia fell from 15 billion euros to 0.5 billion euros in the January-June period of the year, while exports to the country dropped from 12.7 billion euros to 3.4 billion euros. Following the sanctions, oil and natural gas, which accounted for 61.5 percent of imports before the war, were replaced by food, animal feed, metals, and chemical products. In exports, while the machinery and automotive sectors declined, medical and pharmaceutical products took the top spot with a 42.4 percent share.

The severance of economic ties between the two countries also affected corporate partnerships. In 2021, 229 Russian-owned companies in Germany generated a turnover of 25.4 billion euros, while by 2024, the number of companies fell to 76 and the turnover dropped to 8.4 billion euros. According to Bundesbank data, the number of German companies in Russia also decreased from 481 to 290. Furthermore, with the closure of airspace, direct flights have come to a standstill; the number of passengers, which was 1 million in the first half of 2019, fell to 39,900 in 2026, with passengers traveling via third countries. While Russian migration to Germany has reversed, the number of Russian students in German universities has also halved, falling to 1,700.
