With the Presidential Decree published in the Official Gazette, the sliding scale practice that limited price fluctuations in the fuel market has officially come to an end. As a result of the decision, tax rates on gasoline and LPG products were readjusted and a gradual and direct transition schedule was implemented.

Sliding Scale System Ended

With the new Presidential Decree published in the Official Gazette, the sliding scale system that had been applied in fuel for a long time was completely terminated. The main purpose of this practice was to prevent global fluctuations and exchange rate movements in fuel prices from being directly reflected to the consumer.

Gradual Tax Increase on Gasoline

The expected price increase in gasoline due to the return to the pre-sliding scale system was spread across October, November, and December through the gradual reinstatement of the special consumption tax. According to the determined schedule, the SCT amounts to be applied per liter of gasoline became 7.90 liras in October, 11.36 liras in November, and 14.8277 liras in December.

Reflections on Pump Prices

The impact of the first regulation implemented in October on the gasoline pump price is expected to be around 4.15 liras. Thanks to the gradual transition schedule, the burden of the tax increases was distributed in a balanced manner over a three-month period.

Return to the Old Tax System in LPG

Unlike gasoline, a gradual transition schedule was not applied to LPG, and there was a direct return to the old system. The LPG SCT amount, which was 9.2190 liras per kilogram, was raised to 11.3830 liras, and an increase of approximately 1.48 liras is expected to be reflected in the autogas pump price.
