Social Network Services Will Not Be Provided to Children Under 15
Minister Göktaş announced that children under the age of 15 will not be able to benefit from social network services, and safe services will be provided to the 15-18 age group.
In a statement made in Mersin, Minister Göktaş announced that within the scope of the new social media regulation, social network services cannot be provided to children under 15, and special and secure services will be provided to the 15-18 age group.
Minister Göktaş made statements to journalists following the conference held at Mersin University within the scope of the Turkey Zero Waste, Environment and Climate Change Workshops. Stating that the regulation regarding the legislation enacted in the Turkish Grand National Assembly in May has been published in the Official Gazette, Göktaş expressed that social network services cannot be offered to children under 15, while special and secure services will be provided to those in the 15-18 age group.
It was reported that age verification will be carried out via e-Government during new account openings, and only the age range rather than identity information will be shared during this process. While March 31, 2027, was set as the deadline for social network providers to complete age verification procedures for existing accounts, the regulation will enter into force on November 1.
