Sovereign Artificial Intelligence Debates in Vietnam and the Case of Domestic Startup AI Hay
Emerging prominently in Vietnam's quest for artificial intelligence sovereignty, the domestic startup AI Hay is drawing attention with its linguistic optimization and millions of downloads.
While discussions on the concept of sovereign artificial intelligence continue in Vietnam, the domestically developed startup AI Hay, which is culturally and linguistically optimized, is standing out within the ecosystem by securing millions of downloads and significant investments.
Sovereign Artificial Intelligence and Vietnam
Sovereign artificial intelligence represents a country's independent capacity to build, operate, and control its entire artificial intelligence value chain. This concept, debated on a global scale, holds a significant place in Vietnam's technology policies.
Development of the AI Hay Application
Founded in 2022 and launched in June 2024, AI Hay is an AI-powered question-and-answer application tailored to Vietnamese culture. The system, which includes open-source citations, minimizes the risk of hallucinations by increasing transparency.
Market Position and Investments
The application maintains its market leadership by increasing its download count to over 22 million. With the participation of funds from various countries, it has secured a total investment of more than $18 million.
Startup Ranking of Success
According to the StartupBlink report, AI Hay ranks among the top 10 startups in Ho Chi Minh City, holding the first position among artificial intelligence startups in the country and the sixth position in Southeast Asia.
Future Infrastructure Needs
Experts point out that successful domestic applications alone do not represent sovereign artificial intelligence, and that large-scale computing infrastructure and foundational models are required.
