SpaceX secures $40B in financing for GPUs as Elon Musk warns of AI cloud industry consolidation

SpaceX announced that it has secured $40 billion in debt financing to be used for the purchase of graphics processing units (GPUs) for its AI operations. Elon Musk stated that the company was able to secure these funds due to its investment-grade status and revenue generated from its Starlink and rocket launch businesses.

SpaceX has closed $40 billion in debt financing to purchase graphics processing units, which are critical for the training and operation of AI systems. Elon Musk stated that this financing is primarily in the form of callable debt and that the GPUs are expected to be delivered in the first and second quarters of 2027.

Musk also noted that debt markets relying on AI infrastructure are becoming more difficult, warning that many smaller neocloud companies lacking independent revenue streams will face consolidation or bankruptcy risks. While it was reported that SpaceX's third-quarter revenue reached $14.58 billion, a 161 percent increase, it was also noted that special committees have been formed to examine a potential merger between Tesla and SpaceX, though no final decision has been made.
