SpaceX has agreed to testify before the New York City Council as part of a legal investigation into artificial intelligence safety risks.

Council Investigation and Subpoena Process

The New York City Council announced that a subpoena was issued to SpaceX as part of its ongoing investigation into artificial intelligence safety risks. The subpoena, signed by Council Member Julie Menin and General Counsel Nwamaka Ejebe, requested testimony from the company.

Testimony Date and Other Participants

It was announced that the hearing before the council's technology committee will take place on Friday at 10:00 AM. Representatives from Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, and Meta had attended previous sessions, but SpaceX had not been present at the hearing.

Legal Pressures and Agreement

The council reported that after stating the subpoena would be enforced through the courts, SpaceX agreed to testify within two days. It was emphasized that failure by the company to comply could result in penalties.

AI Investments and Risks

SpaceX integrated the xAI venture into its structure in February and strengthened its presence in the artificial intelligence market by acquiring Cursor in August. Meanwhile, the company's Grok model and lawsuits increasing due to deepfake images are on the council's agenda.
