Spotify pulled 50 million AI slop and spam tracks from its recommendations

Music platform Spotify has removed over 50 million AI-generated songs, often referred to as 'slop,' from its recommendation system to improve user experience. With this move, the company aims to provide greater visibility for the works of real artists.

Spotify uses a comprehensive method to manage the impact of AI-generated content on the platform, incorporating listener feedback, upload patterns, metadata, and third-party detection tools. The company stated that it has observed a significant decrease in user complaints regarding recommended content following these adjustments.

The platform is also taking various measures against AI-generated content. Spotify has launched an 'AI Persona' badge for AI identities that do not represent a real person and does not include such content in recommendation lists. Last year, the platform removed more than 75 million songs identified as spam from its system.

Other platforms in the industry are also pursuing various strategies against AI content. While YouTube Music labels AI songs, Deezer offers users the option to filter this content. Bandcamp has completely banned music produced with artificial intelligence.
