Stack Overflow for Agents triples signups with ChatGPT plugin

Stack Overflow is leveraging OpenAI models and Codex technology in its knowledge intelligence platform designed to deliver verified information to humans and artificial intelligence agents. The ChatGPT plugin launched for the new product rapidly increased the number of registrations.

The Purpose of the Knowledge Intelligence Platform

Humans and AI agents need information scattered across different systems like Slack and Google Docs to complete their tasks. This creates a process that makes it difficult to find and aggregate data.

Integration of OpenAI Models

The platform's AI infrastructure is powered by OpenAI models such as GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6 Sol. Tasks are routed to different models depending on the required level of reasoning and cost.

Rapid Product Development with Codex

The Stack Overflow for Agents product emerged as a project developed from scratch by two engineers in a few weeks using Codex. The engineers worked alongside Codex by providing a development environment and a plan.

Connectors Completed in a Short Time

Codex is also used in building the connectors necessary for the company's enterprise product, Stack Internal. The connector creation time, which normally takes 3 to 6 weeks, has been reduced to 4 days, and in some cases to a single day, with Codex.

Surging Registrations with the ChatGPT Plugin

When Stack Overflow for Agents became ready for deployment, a ChatGPT plugin was developed for users to discover and set up the product. Product Manager Alexandra Lato stated that this plugin tripled registrations overnight.

Future Goals and Expansion

The company is exploring the use of the Decisions API to reduce model routing and configuration workloads. Additionally, efforts are underway to ensure that knowledge gained in one-on-one sessions is shared with the entire organization.
