In the weekend elections held in Serbia, the leaderless Student Movement, which operates with a collective decision-making mechanism, reached 53% of the vote and won 141 seats in the 250-seat parliament, preparing for government formation talks. With this result, the 14-year rule of Aleksandar Vučić and the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) has come to an end.

The elections in question were held following a two-year wave of anti-government protests that began after the fatal roof collapse at the Novi Sad railway station. Former president Aleksandar Vučić, who lost the election, announced on Sunday that he conceded defeat. The Student Movement's political platform is built on anti-corruption, the restoration of the rule of law, and the depoliticization of state institutions.

Among the prominent figures representing the movement are cardiologist Ilija Srdanović, former central bank governor Dejan Šoškić, and chemistry professor Radomir Saičić. Following Vučić's resignation, new presidential elections are required to be held before December 27, 2026, while the new government must be formed within 90 days after the official election results are announced.
