The Insurance Association of Turkey (TSB), the Insurance Information and Monitoring Center (SBM), and the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) evaluated the developments in travel mobility and travel health insurance based on data. According to TurkStat data, the number of citizens visiting abroad increased by 13.1 percent in the first quarter of 2026 and by 16.5 percent in the second quarter. In the first six months, the number of citizens visiting abroad rose by approximately 15 percent, reaching 6.4 million. In the same period, an increase of approximately 34 percent was recorded in the number of insured individuals under travel health insurance policies issued.

In the June, July, and August 2026 period covering the summer season, the total number of insured individuals in travel health insurance policies issued increased by 58 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 1.9 million. The number of insured individuals under the policies was 612 thousand in June, 690 thousand in July, and 609 thousand in August; thus, the highest level of the summer months was recorded in July. In the entire January-August period, the number of insured individuals rose by 40 percent to 4.1 million.

TSB stated that the increase seen in both overseas visits and travel health insurance data indicates that rising travel mobility is reflected in insurance. Pointing out that the tendency to provide advance coverage against health risks that may be encountered during travel has strengthened, the Association reminded that being under insurance coverage throughout the journey, even after the summer vacation has ended, is one of the important steps of safe travel. The shared insured counts represent the total number of insured individuals included in the travel health insurance policies issued in the respective months.
