Masahiro Sakurai, the creator of iconic game series such as Super Smash Bros. and Kirby, has reacted sharply to the increasing use of artificial intelligence in video game development processes. In an interview with Denfaminico Gamer, Sakurai argued that while AI increases the speed of game development, it leads to compromises in the quality and originality of the games.

Sakurai drew attention to the rapid increase in the number of games released on platforms like Steam. Acknowledging that 19,000 games added to Steam in a single year is an impressive figure, the developer stated that the vast majority of these titles are rapidly produced by AI and are therefore insufficient in terms of playability and profitability.

The experienced figure noted that AI stifles creativity by directly copying existing systems in game design and triggers a rigid, unoriginal mindset in game development.
