The Swedish government has banned public employees from using OpenAI's ChatGPT and Anthropic's Claude models on work computers due to security concerns. The decision, made following a study conducted in early 2026, aims to protect sensitive data and ensure the secure execution of public duties.

In a statement issued by the government, it was noted that AI platforms have led to problematic usage in the performance of public duties. Under the restriction, which came into effect this week, employees' access to these AI tools on work computers has been blocked. The government stated that employees may utilize artificial intelligence within the framework of stricter controls.

According to reports in the Swedish media, similar restrictions have been implemented in institutions such as the Swedish Tax Agency and the National Board of Health and Welfare, in addition to the central government.
