Taiwan Acquires AI Satellite System to Accelerate Military Tracking
Taiwan's defense ministry has signed a contract with ThinkTron to rapidly detect military movements by the Chinese People's Liberation Army.
Taiwan's defense ministry has signed a contract worth 46.55 million New Taiwan dollars for an AI-powered satellite imaging system aimed at boosting early warning capabilities by quickly detecting ships, aircraft, and missile launchers belonging to the Chinese People's Liberation Army.
The Communications Development Office, the primary military intelligence unit under Taiwan's defense ministry, signed the contract under a public procurement tender with ThinkTron, a Taiwan-Japan joint venture specializing in artificial intelligence, geographic information systems, and monitoring technologies.
Valued at 46.55 million New Taiwan dollars, the system will use artificial intelligence to analyze a 100-square-kilometer area within minutes, potentially reducing the time and labor required to track changes in the People's Liberation Army's deployment.
The system, procured under a contract that took effect on September 25, is expected to be completed by the end of April.
