Trump says US keeps up pressure on Iran

US President Donald Trump stated that the Washington administration continues to apply economic and military pressure on Iran. Speaking to reporters before departing for Kansas, Trump praised Russia's stance in the conflict and defended negotiations with Moscow.

During his speech at a rally in Kansas, US President Donald Trump stated that he had requested assistance from NATO regarding developments in Iran and that this served as a test. Trump also claimed that the Iranian navy and numerous warplanes had been destroyed, and that a large portion of the leadership echelon had been eliminated. Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated in remarks on October 20 that Tehran and Moscow are working closer than ever. Meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Tehran, Araghchi noted that the two countries are maintaining their contacts. Lavrov reiterated Russia's readiness to help find a mutually acceptable solution to the conflict between the US and Iran.

On the other hand, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps warned that if potential new US attacks jeopardize Iran's security, submarine communication cables in the Strait of Hormuz could be targeted. Despite shipment disruptions in the region, Iraqi Oil Minister Hayan Abdul-Ghani announced that oil exports exceeded 3.4 million barrels per day in October. Amid concerns over supply disruptions in the Middle East, oil prices showed a tendency to recover on October 20. The price of Brent crude rose by 0.5 percent to $110.10 per barrel, while December-delivery US crude traded with a 0.4 percent gain at $98.93.
