The Crisis Between Real Madrid and LaLiga President Javier Tebas Reaches Sports Judiciary
After LaLiga President Javier Tebas compared Real Madrid's communication methods to Nazi propagandist Goebbels, Spain's High Sports Council referred the matter to court with a request for a disciplinary investigation.
The comparison made by Spanish Football League (LaLiga) President Javier Tebas of the club's communication strategies to Nazi Germany propagandist Joseph Goebbels has set Spain's sports judiciary in motion. Spain's High Sports Council (CSD) applied to the Administrative Sports Court requesting the opening of a disciplinary investigation on the grounds that the remarks may constitute a violation of sporting honor and courtesy.
It was stated that LaLiga President Javier Tebas, in a social media post on platform X on October 16, accused the Real Madrid management of fueling doubts over referee decisions and compared the club's communication strategies to the techniques of Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels. Following this comparison, the Real Madrid club described the remarks as morally repulsive and demanded Tebas's resignation.
Following the statements, Spain's High Sports Council (CSD) made an official application to the Administrative Sports Court (TAD) requesting the initiation of a disciplinary investigation based on article 76, paragraph four, clause b of Spanish Sports Law numbered 10/1990. Tebas denied the accusations, defending that the comparison he made was not an ideological identification, but a criticism aimed at the communication techniques used.
According to claims in the Spanish press, the TAD could decide whether Tebas, who has been president for four terms since 2023, will remain in office. It is stated that this tension between the parties is a continuation of disagreements regarding broadcasting rights and the European Super League persisting since 2015, and furthermore, Real Madrid has filed more than 50 lawsuits against Tebas concerning broadcasting rights to date.
