A comprehensive report published in The Lancet journal on October 10, 2026, reveals that factors threatening human health are not limited to pandemics, identifying 17 different critical risks that will affect 204 countries and regions between 2025 and 2100.

The study, prepared with the contributions of experts from around the world, states that nuclear war, the misuse of artificial intelligence, climate change, air pollution, and antimicrobial resistance are among the priority threats to the future of humanity. The list also includes structural problems such as childhood malnutrition, obesity, mental health issues, economic inequality, and the decline in international development aid.

The report warns that the possibility of a large-scale nuclear conflict and the uncontrolled or malicious use of artificial intelligence could pose an existential threat to humanity. Experts state that basing global health strategies solely on preparation for the next pandemic will be insufficient to manage this wide range of risks.
