Thirty People Trapped in a Fire at a Gym in Batman
While the death toll rose to three from a fire that broke out in the sauna section of a sports hall in Batman's Gültepe neighborhood, the business owner and two staff members were detained.
A fire broke out in the evening hours for an undetermined reason in the sauna section of a private sports hall in Batman's Gültepe neighborhood. While numerous teams were dispatched to the facility, which was enveloped by dense smoke and flames, 12 people affected by the smoke were taken to hospitals. Three of the injured receiving treatment could not be saved and lost their lives.
Fire Broke Out in the Sauna Section
A fire broke out for an undetermined reason in the evening hours in the sauna section of a private sports hall located in Batman's Gültepe neighborhood. The flames, which spread in a short time, engulfed the facility.
Teams Mobilized
Upon the facility being enveloped by dense smoke and flames, fire department, AFAD, UMKE, 112 emergency health, and police teams were dispatched to the scene. With the intensive intervention of the teams, the fire was brought under control and extinguished, and cooling operations were carried out in the area.
Loss of Life and Injured
A total of 12 people affected by the smoke in the incident were taken to hospitals. Among the injured under treatment, Şanzime Sarıgül, Emine Yani, and Gülsüm Öztekin Tunç could not be saved despite all interventions.
Identities of Those Who Lost Their Lives
It was learned that Emine Yani, who lost her life, was the niece of Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek, and that Sarıgül and Yani worked at the Children's Homes Site affiliated with the Provincial Directorate of Family and Social Services. The funeral prayers of the 3 deceased individuals were buried after autopsy procedures.
Inspections and Investigation
Batman Governor Ekrem Canalp came to the scene to examine the work on-site and received information from authorities. A Social Security Institution inspector was assigned by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security to investigate the incident.
Detention Proceedings
Within the scope of the investigation launched by the Batman Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the business owner and two staff members of the sports hall were detained. Judicial and administrative investigations regarding the incident are continuing multidimensionally.
