In his speech at the Turkey-EU Business Summit in Brussels, Trade Minister Ömer Bolat evaluated the European Union's Industrial Acceleration Act process and stated that the solution should not involve excluding trusted partners or the Customs Union.
Industrial Acceleration Act and Partnership
Trade Minister Ömer Bolat stated that they understand the European Union's agenda regarding the Industrial Acceleration Act. Noting that they share similar concerns regarding large-scale imports from third countries, Bolat said the solution is not to exclude reliable partners.
Contacts at the Brussels Summit
During the Turkey-EU Business Summit held in Brussels, Bolat met with EU Commissioner Maros Sefcovic and stated that relations are built on solid foundations. The event was organized in cooperation with the Foreign Economic Relations Board and the European Business Summit.
30-Year Success of the Customs Union
Reminding that the Customs Union, which entered into force in 1996, removed trade restrictions, Bolat noted that total annual trade has risen from $21 billion to $233 billion. The process has driven an increase in mutual investments and industrial integration.
Integration in the Automotive Sector
The volume of the automotive sector, which accounts for approximately 26 percent of trade between Turkey and the EU, has reached $62 billion. Seventy-five percent of automotive production in Turkey is carried out by European companies, establishing a strong bond in this field.
