Trump announces plans to renovate D.C. golf course amid legal battle

President Donald Trump announced in a statement on Sunday that the Department of the Interior, along with architect Tom Fazio, is preparing plans to build a championship golf course at the East Potomac Golf Links in Washington. The renovation work is scheduled to begin on November 15 and last approximately 15 months. However, this initiative has already been taken to court by a preservation group and two Washington residents.

The renovation plan announced by President Donald Trump via Truth Social brought about a legal battle regarding the future of the course. Within the scope of the plan, it was stated that the Department of the Interior is working with golf course architect Tom Fazio, and the work is planned to start on November 15 and last for approximately 15 months.

The proposed renovation project was taken to court by a preservation group and two D.C. residents. While U.S. District Judge Ana Reyes asked the Justice Department to submit arguments on whether the plans constitute a final agency action, the department argued that the plans are preliminary and not subject to judicial review. Judge Reyes had previously barred the administration from cutting down any more trees until October 26 and requested that officials, including the acting director of the National Park Service and the chief of staff of the Department of the Interior, testify at the hearing.
