US President Donald Trump stated that he never liked the interim Iran ceasefire agreement reached in June, known as the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, and considered it a waste of time. Responding to this statement, the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the remarks exposed the inconsistency of Washington's diplomatic commitments.

The interim ceasefire and memorandum of understanding, reached as a result of talks held in Islamabad in June with the mediation of Pakistan and Qatar, had collapsed shortly after. The agreement envisioned the cessation of military operations, regulations regarding the Strait of Hormuz, and a 60-day period to resolve disputes concerning Iran's nuclear program. However, after the parties accused each other of violations, the memorandum failed to achieve its goals.

Speaking at a rally in Mississippi, US President Trump stated that he never liked the ceasefire agreement in question and viewed the process as a waste of time for listening to professionals. Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmail Baghaei, in a statement on his social media account, argued that Trump's admission showed the superficiality of Washington's diplomatic commitments and stated that the US bends international obligations according to its own interests.
