Turkey's first floating production platform, Osman Gazi, is being sent off from Zonguldak Filyos to the Black Sea to double domestic natural gas production in the Sakarya Gas Field.

Duty Station and Production Target

The Osman Gazi platform will double domestic natural gas production in the Black Sea's Sakarya Gas Field, increasing daily production from 9.5 million cubic meters to 20 million cubic meters.

The platform, which will operate in the Black Sea for 20 years, will increase the number of households meeting their natural gas needs through domestic resources from 4 million to 8 million.

Technical Characteristics of the Platform

Unveiled to the public in July 2024, Osman Gazi draws attention with its massive dimensions of 298.5 meters in length, 56 meters in width, and 29.5 meters in depth.

The upper structure of the platform, which underwent accreditation, certification, and modification processes in Zonguldak Filyos, houses 21 separate facilities.

Preparation and Integration Process

Approximately 7,000 people took part in the comprehensive work carried out on the platform, and a total of 642 kilometers of electrical cable were laid.

In August, the 96-meter-high flare tower, which ensures the safe evacuation of hydrocarbon gases in emergency situations, was installed.

Economic Contribution and Schedule

The Osman Gazi platform is expected to provide an annual contribution of 3.5 billion dollars to the Turkish economy, with daily production corresponding to a magnitude of 10 million dollars at current prices.

It is planned to ignite the first gas from the flare tower by the end of the year and to start production in early 2027.
