Turkish Building Earthquake Code to be revised in 2027
Within the scope of the 2027 Presidential Annual Program, it is aimed to revise the Turkish Building Earthquake Code and design new structures according to multi-hazard risks.
Prepared to increase the earthquake resilience of buildings in Turkey, the 2027 Presidential Annual Program envisages revising existing regulations and taking multi-hazard risks into account in new construction projects.
Within the framework of the program, it is planned to update the Turkish Building Earthquake Code next year and prepare application-oriented training materials during this process. With the new regulations, evaluating not only earthquakes but also multiple hazard threats together in building and infrastructure projects will be adopted as a fundamental principle.
While the Ministry of Interior is held responsible for the coordination of the studies, the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change and AFAD will contribute to the process. The project aims to be carried out in cooperation with public institutions, local governments, universities, and non-governmental organizations.
In addition, efforts to strengthen public service buildings against disasters will continue. The Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change will serve as the responsible institution in these reinforcement activities carried out within the scope of the Public Buildings Earthquake Resistance and Energy Efficiency Project.
