At least 68 people lost their lives in an accident involving two high-speed trains near the town of Urda in Spain. Antonio Garcia, a 78-year-old pharmacist from the town, was among the first to arrive at the scene after his daughter gave him the news. Garcia helped the injured by taking first aid supplies, pain relievers, sedatives, and blankets from his pharmacy. The local residents also distributed water to the evacuated passengers.

While the sports hall in Urda was converted into a center for the rescued passengers, the local elementary school was allocated to families searching for their relatives. Carmen, a volunteer psychologist who came from Madrid, recounted the devastation experienced by mothers who learned of their children's deaths, while many families from the capital continue to search for their missing loved ones.
