Police in the UK have rearrested two men who had been released on bail, on suspicion of assisting Iranian intelligence in connection with a suspected plot targeting the US-operated RAF Fairford air base.

Counter Terrorism Policing in the UK announced that a 24-year-old British national and a 25-year-old dual British-Iranian national have been rearrested under the National Security Act. Authorities stated that one of the suspects was initially detained on September 27 when the suspected plot was hatched, and the other on October 1, and both had been released on bail pending investigation until Tuesday. It was stated that the base in western England was used to bomb Iran during this year's war.

Following the incident, numerous residents near the base were evacuated from their homes, and armed police and bomb disposal experts were dispatched to the area. Searches revealed gasoline-type accelerants in three vans on the base grounds, but no explosives were found. British officials linked the incident to Tehran, with Prime Minister Andy Burnham stating that the plot was 'almost certainly' directed by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Iran has denied the accusations, though it previously stated it considers any base used to launch attacks against its territory as a legitimate target.
