UK families told to stock up on emergency supplies — and be ready for war

The UK government has launched a new campaign called 'Be Ready', urging citizens to be prepared for potential crisis situations. Defence Secretary Wes Streeting stated that the public should keep three days' worth of essential supplies against natural disasters, cyber attacks, acts of terrorism, and the risk of war that could occur by 2030.

Speaking to the BBC, Minister Streeting emphasized that the world has become more dangerous and turbulent, advising households to keep canned food, diapers, pet supplies, flashlights, batteries, portable chargers, and cash in case local payment systems collapse. Streeting stated that these preparations are necessary not only for a military threat, but for all kinds of emergencies that could disrupt daily life, such as natural disasters like floods or fires, and cyber attacks.

While the government's warnings regarding the need to prepare for a potential war scenario by 2030 drew attention, Streeting noted that the threat is not limited to cross-border military mobility alone. The minister emphasized the need to remain vigilant against acts aimed at undermining public safety, such as state-sponsored terrorism and sabotage. Joint exercises held in Germany last week with the participation of British and French soldiers aimed to demonstrate NATO's defensive capacity against a possible attack.
