Ukraine targets Putin’s hometown as it launches 1,000 drones at Russia’s oil industry — the biggest attack all year

Ukraine has carried out one of the largest attacks of the year on Russia's oil industry, sending more than 1,000 drones to multiple locations, including St. Petersburg, the hometown of Vladimir Putin.

Major fires broke out at an oil terminal and the Ruchi oil depot in St. Petersburg. Regional Governor Alexander Beglov announced that at least one person was killed and five others were injured as a result of the attacks. It was reported that a logistics center and a data center were also targeted during the operation.

The Russian Ministry of Defense claimed that a total of 1,015 Ukrainian drones were destroyed over 15 different regions. While Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that the attacks would not change the course of events, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that they would continue to target oil facilities in response to Russia's attacks on energy infrastructure. The attack took place after Ukraine rejected a proposed energy ceasefire.
