In the 2027 Best Colleges list published by U.S. News & World Report, UMass Lowell maintained its position as the top public university in Massachusetts in the "Best Value Schools" category, which combines academic quality with affordability for four-year undergraduate students. Rising nine spots from last year to rank 83rd nationally, the institution placed 148th overall among national universities nationwide and 11th in Massachusetts.

The evaluation was based on 17 metrics from more than 1,700 higher education institutions assessed, including student retention, graduation rates, financial resources per student, and research volume.
