World Food Programme Cuts Aid to 500,000 Palestinians in Gaza, Cites Funding Shortages

The United Nations World Food Programme announced that it has implemented major cuts to its aid program in Gaza due to funding shortages. As a result of the decision, approximately 500 thousand people were reported to have been deprived of monthly food support.

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) implemented major restrictions on its aid operations in Gaza due to ongoing funding shortages. According to the announcement, the number of people receiving monthly aid was reduced from 1.6 million to 1.1 million, leaving approximately 500 thousand people deprived of regular food support. In addition, food rations were cut in half, cash assistance for 75 thousand families was halted, and daily hot meal capacity dropped from 250 thousand to 150 thousand. The WFP noted that approximately 1.4 million people, corresponding to two-thirds of Gaza's population, are facing crisis-level or worse food insecurity.

WFP Deputy Executive Director Carl Skau stated that conditions are extremely brutal as they enter the fourth winter, noting that they urgently need 450 million dollars over the next six months to sustain operations. Meanwhile, the Hamas-run Gaza government media office described the decision as a "catastrophe," warning that it could accelerate famine.
