Why Rubio is visiting Reliance’s oil refinery in India, the world’s largest

As part of his two-day official visit to India, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is traveling to Gujarat to inspect the Jamnagar refinery owned by Reliance Industries, which belongs to Mukesh Ambani. Holding the distinction of being the world's largest single-site refinery, the facility occupies a strategic position in global energy markets with a daily processing capacity of 1.4 million barrels.

Rubio's visit coincides with a period when Washington is trying to manage sanctions on Russian energy buyers and the effects of conflicts in Iran on oil prices. While difficulties in bilateral relations between the US and India and uncertainties in trade agreements persist, it is stated that this visit is more focused on commercial investment and economic cooperation.

US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor stated that the visit was carried out to evaluate economic opportunities with business leaders. Rubio will hold talks in Mumbai before visiting the capital New Delhi and then moving on to the refinery complex in Gujarat.
