A new report published by the Tech Transparency Project (TTP) revealed that despite parental controls and platform bans in Apple and Google app stores, teenagers in the US are still able to access and download AI-based "nudify" (undressing) applications.

Tech Transparency Project researchers discovered that using test accounts set up for 13-year-olds in the stores, they were able to download 135 apps featuring functions that remove clothing or place faces onto nude bodies. It was determined that many of these apps had incorrect ratings indicating they were unsuitable for minors, and young users were allowed to access them even while parental controls were active.

In December 2025, Morgan Dorfman learned that a student at her high school in Pennsylvania had used an AI app named Movely to generate non-consensual pornographic videos from photos of her daughter and five other girls. Following the school's initial stance, Radnor police penalized the student with harassment charges. Similar cases have reportedly been reported nationwide.

While Apple and Google ban such apps, TTP found that these companies largely rely on developers to determine age appropriateness. Following TTP's communication, Apple took steps to strengthen content moderation, while Google stated it regularly detects and removes harmful content. However, it was noted that downloaded apps continue to function on devices even after being removed from the stores.
