US updates scope of customs duties on products originating from Canada
US President Donald Trump made changes to the customs duty regulation applied to products imported from Canada under the Tariff Act of 1930. With the decree taking effect on October 30, certain products were excluded while valves, carpets, and waste products were added to the new list.
US President Donald Trump signed a new proclamation regarding the importation of products originating from Canada, based on Section 338 of the Tariff Act of 1930. According to the statement made by the White House, this regulation, implemented to balance the commercial burden, will be effective as of October 30.
Under the new regulation, plywood sheets, certain paper products, some machinery and refrigeration equipment, and packaging crates were removed from the scope of tariffs. Instead, valves, carpets, and waste products were included in the customs duty list. The US administration had introduced an additional 50 percent tax on certain products in July, citing Canada's discriminatory practices.
