A military initiative named "FORTRESS" has been launched with the goal of enabling the US military to continue its attacks despite disruptions to civil infrastructure. Within this scope, the objective is for every major military facility on the US mainland to sustain its core operations for at least 90 days.

According to a report by Fox News, the military initiative titled "FORTRESS" aims to enable the US military to "continue its attacks" even if civil infrastructures are disrupted. Under FORTRESS, "in preparation for the possibility of a large-scale war," every major military facility on the US mainland is expected to maintain its core operations—including access to electricity, water, fuel, and communication channels—for at least 90 days.

With this initiative, the Pentagon aims to lay the groundwork for civil factories to transition to defense production during times of crisis, establish alternative supply chains, and build strategic reserves to ensure the continued flow of weapons, fuel, and other materials. It is aimed to develop portable nuclear reactors, large-scale battery storage systems, and microgrids that disconnect military facilities from the civil electrical grid, enabling them to operate during prolonged power outages.

Pentagon Spokesperson Sean Parnell stated to Fox News that relying on standard urban civil infrastructure to conduct national defense is an unacceptable risk. Describing the FORTRESS initiative as an insurance policy for the US mainland, Parnell noted that US President Donald Trump has taken steps toward the "Golden Dome" national missile defense system by focusing on Greenland, Panama, and the Western Hemisphere.
