Use of Autonomous Artificial Intelligence is Becoming Widespread in European Union Businesses
An OpenAI research reveals that autonomous tools like Codex and ChatGPT Work are rapidly spreading among EU businesses and SMEs, although a productivity gap exists on a global scale.
Companies across the European Union are expanding their use of artificial intelligence toward autonomous tools that handle tasks ranging from planning to completion. An OpenAI Economic Research report examines the growth of these tools in businesses and regional differences.
The Rise of Autonomous Tools
People are moving beyond merely asking questions to artificial intelligence, beginning to use agents that carry out tasks from start to finish. Autonomous usage already constitutes a significant portion of operations among ChatGPT Enterprise customers.
Eightfold Growth in SMEs
The trend of autonomous artificial intelligence is also visible in small and medium-sized enterprises with two hundred or fewer users. Since May, the number of weekly active users of Codex and ChatGPT Work in EU SMEs has increased more than eightfold.
Differences Among Member States
The adoption of autonomous artificial intelligence in the EU does not exhibit a homogeneous structure. The output token share in the sampled accounts varies from 22 percent in Slovenia to 85 percent in Lithuania.
Comparison with the Global Scale
Companies generating the highest output tokens use artificial intelligence more intensively compared to normal EU firms. In September, leading EU firms produced four times more tokens than ordinary firms, while leading firms outside the EU reached twice that amount.
Sarah Friar's Evaluations
OpenAI Chief Financial Officer Sarah Friar stated that Europe has entered a new era where tools can perform tasks. Although small business user numbers are increasing, there is still significant room for growth to build stronger economies.
