Vast Majority of Iranian Attacks in Strait of Hormuz Unsuccessful
CENTCOM announced that the vast majority of Iranian attacks in the Strait of Hormuz have failed, with 97 percent of ships passing safely.
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) spokesperson and U.S. Navy Captain Tim Hawkins reported that the overwhelming majority of Iran-linked attack attempts against commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz have failed and that the waterway remains open.
Tim Hawkins stated in remarks to Fox News Digital that approximately 97 percent of ships wishing to transit the Strait of Hormuz successfully complete their voyages without becoming targets of Iranian projectiles.
This statement followed the sinking of the Singapore-flagged, Cyprus-owned container ship GFS Pride while being towed after a fire broke out following an Iranian projectile strike in the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday.
CENTCOM Commander Admiral Brad Cooper noted that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has continuously launched attacks on commercial vessels passing through the strait in recent days and months. According to International Maritime Organization data, more than 20 civilian sailors have lost their lives in Iran's attacks targeting commercial shipping since February.
