Vietnam designates low-altitude airspace as an economic development zone
Vietnam aims to transform airspace below 1,000 meters into an economic development hub using UAV technologies. By making the use of UAVs in transportation and infrastructure monitoring a strategic priority, the country plans to establish three national flight test sites by 2030.
Vietnam has initiated a comprehensive transformation process to position its low-altitude airspace below 1,000 meters as a strategic area for technology and socio-economic development. In line with Politburo Decision No. 99-KL/TW dated September 28, 2026, the goal is to integrate UAVs into transportation, logistics, and infrastructure monitoring processes.
Dr. Tran Huu Minh, Deputy Director of the Department of Transport and Traffic Safety, emphasized the potential of UAV technologies to reduce traffic congestion, lower emissions, and accelerate digital transformation. In this context, the Vietnam Road Administration has begun using UAVs and artificial intelligence models to analyze road surfaces and bridge structures.
Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are continuing their preparations for UAV ecosystems and flying taxi models. The strategy, which envisions the establishment of three national flight test sites and one national research center by 2030, identifies the improvement of legal regulations and the standardization of digital infrastructure as critical priorities.
