Walmart is preparing to allow AI agents to shop on its website and Sam's Club, introducing new systems that enable users to set spending limits and approve transactions.

Retail giant Walmart has announced that it will begin allowing the use of AI agents on its site starting next month. In this context, systems will be established to allow users to set spending limits and review and approve purchases. This move by Walmart contrasts with Amazon's blocking of Perplexity's shopping agent and Meta's Muse AI assistant.

The company, which is opening its doors on the condition that agents follow the rules, stated that agents will not be able to perform actions beyond their intended purpose, will not be able to change the customer's payment method, and will only have access to the information necessary to complete the task. It was reported that agents that do not comply with these terms will be blocked.

Users will be able to manage agents through the new Agent Profiles within Walmart. By default, approval will be required for all AI purchases, but a budget limit, such as up to $100, can also be set. Additionally, the Agent Gateway beta, which connects via the Model Context Protocol, will allow agents to work without hitting browser barriers while preventing them from accessing personal information and shopping history.
