Development of the Incident and Trapped Vehicle

A large sinkhole formed in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles on Wednesday afternoon following the rupture of a water main. A Spectrum utility van became trapped in this sinkhole, and the vehicle was seen sinking into the pit.

Authorities stated that there was a danger of the van being completely swallowed by the sinkhole at any moment. It was reported that the technician who was in the area at the time of the incident is in good condition and was unharmed.

Infrastructure Damage and Intervention Efforts

A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power stated that the affected water main is eight inches in diameter and a total of thirty customers were impacted by the outage.

Crews managed to shut off the water in the area in a short time, but a clear repair and reconnection timeframe has not yet been provided for the disrupted services.

Traffic Restrictions and Reactions from Area Residents

Normandie Avenue was completely closed to traffic due to the incident and ongoing rescue and repair work. Spectrum officials announced that they are cooperating with local teams.

Area residents reacted to the situation, drawing attention to the city's aging infrastructure. Silvia Santos, a resident at the scene, stated that she had been parked in the exact same spot for ten minutes just before moving her car.
