NASA has announced that the Orionid meteor shower, one of the year's most impressive celestial events, will take place between October 2 and November 12. Caused by debris from Halley's Comet entering Earth's atmosphere, the peak period of the meteor shower will occur on the night connecting October 21 to October 22.

The eagerly awaited Orionid meteor shower season has begun for sky observers. According to information shared by NASA, the source of the meteors is known to be a point in the constellation Orion. This event occurs as Earth passes through the debris field left behind by Halley's Comet. Entering the atmosphere at a speed of approximately 66 kilometers per second, the fragments vaporize due to friction with the air, creating streaks of light lasting from a few seconds to a few minutes. The other meteor shower created by fragments breaking off from Halley's Comet is known as the Eta Aquariids, seen around May.

According to NASA, the most favorable time to watch the Orionid meteors will be the night of October 22 and the early hours of the morning of October 23. While it is recommended to choose dark areas away from city lights, it is stated that it takes less than 30 minutes for eyes to adapt to the darkness. It is advised to look southeast in the Northern Hemisphere and northeast in the Southern Hemisphere. Additionally, it is noted that in this event, which can be observed with the naked eye without the need for a telescope, the increasing light of the Moon approaching the full moon phase on October 26 may make it difficult to see some of the fainter meteors.
