Wiz CTO Warns About Artificial Intelligence and Critical Software Vulnerabilities
Wiz CTO Tomer Schwartz stated that artificial intelligence accelerates the discovery and exploitation of critical software vulnerabilities, noting that PHP flaws are just the beginning.
Tomer Schwartz, CTO of Exposure Management & AppSec at Wiz, joined TechCrunch's Equity podcast to evaluate how artificial intelligence accelerates the discovery and exploitation process of software vulnerabilities. The statements addressed the remediation process for critical bugs discovered in PHP, the language powering approximately 75% of websites on the internet.
Tomer Schwartz, CTO of Google-backed Wiz, worked alongside OpenAI, the Calif research group, and the PHP team to remediate the bugs. During the program, Schwartz stated that manual patching does not scale and that Wiz would not have been able to find these bugs without artificial intelligence. Noting that proprietary tools tested dozens of ideas over a weekend, Schwartz explained how a vulnerability can remain in the wild for over a decade before becoming exploitable, and how coordinated disclosures can lead to leaks.
