Opening its doors at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London in collaboration with Koç Holding, the exhibition "From Constantinople to Istanbul" brings together works covering the city's two imperial eras stretching from 330 AD to 1922.

Major Collaboration in London

As part of the cultural activities of the Koç Group celebrating its 100th anniversary, the exhibition to be held at the Victoria and Albert Museum will meet visitors on November 7.

Prepared with the collaboration of Koç Holding and the support of the Huo Family Foundation, this significant event will contribute to the international promotion of Istanbul.

Capital of Two Empires

The exhibition focuses on Istanbul's artistic and cultural production during the period when it served as the capital of the Byzantine Empire and the Ottoman Empire.

Spanning the timeframe from 330 AD to 1922, the event includes designs reflecting the city's influence in the Mediterranean world.

Historical Places and Life

Prepared by V&A Senior Curator Tim Stanley and Project Curator Bella Radenovic, the project is presented to art lovers in the United Kingdom.

Along with historical sites such as the Hippodrome, Hagia Sophia, Topkapı Palace, and the Galata Tower, street life is also conveyed to visitors through designs.

Ottoman Women's Clothing and Calligraphy

19th-century Ottoman women's clothing and examples of calligraphy selected from the Sadberk Hanım Museum Collection, affiliated with the Vehbi Koç Foundation, are featured in the exhibition.

Elements reflecting clothing culture, such as the three-layered robe (üçetek entari) and various street garments, reveal the aesthetic understanding of Ottoman society.

Work of Osman Hamdi Bey

Osman Hamdi Bey's painting, located in the Yapı Kredi Collection and depicting Ottoman women in the courtyard of the Blue Mosque, is also among the exhibited works.

This valuable painting titled "Women Promenading" stands out as an important piece reflecting the social life and artistic understanding of the era.

Contribution of International Institutions

Under the coordination of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, institutions affiliated with the Ministry and the Directorate of National Palaces provided artifact support for the exhibition.

Works were borrowed from the collections of prestigious institutions such as the Topkapı Palace Museum, the British Museum, the British Library, and the Treasury of San Marco.

Featuring a total of 200 unique pieces, this comprehensive event promises art enthusiasts a unique journey into the depths of history.

Numerous works meeting the audience in the United Kingdom for the first time are also being exhibited within the scope of this international organization.
