A person in Texas who inspected a box of items purchased at an estate sale discovered live World War II-era hand grenades inside. Following the discovery, security measures were taken in the neighborhood and the police bomb squad was dispatched.

The Danger Inside the Box

A citizen who bought new items at an estate sale in Texas encountered an unexpected sight on Monday while sorting through the boxes.

Realizing that the boxes contained numerous hand grenades dating back to the World War II era, the buyer reported the situation to the authorities.

Intervention by Police and Bomb Disposal Teams

The bomb disposal unit affiliated with the Austin Police Department, which arrived at the region upon the report, took security precautions in the surrounding area and imposed temporary restrictions in the neighborhood.

In a social media post by the Austin Police Association, it was stated that the grenades were live and active, requiring a sensitive intervention.

Characteristics of the Pineapple Grenades

According to information provided by local news sources, at least three of these olive-green munitions are Mk 2 type anti-personnel fragmentation hand grenades commonly used by American forces.

These explosives, also known as pineapples due to their distinctive shape, were examined with X-rays by bomb disposal technicians.

Safe Disposal and Investigation

As a result of the examinations, it was determined that the devices were live, but did not pose an immediate threat under current conditions.

Authorities did not disclose the identities of the buyer or seller regarding the grenades, which were safely removed and neutralized by experts.
