2026 Turkey Active Fault Map Published
Following the earthquake in Şanlıurfa, the updated active fault map and list of risky provinces have been announced.
Following the 5.4 magnitude earthquake recorded in Şanlıurfa's Karaköprü district, the 2026 Turkey Active Fault Map was shared with the public by MTA.
Developments Following the Earthquake in Şanlıurfa
An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.4 occurred in Şanlıurfa's Karaköprü district, and this tremor was also felt in surrounding provinces.
According to data from the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD), the tremor took place at a depth of 7.39 kilometers underground at 10:40.
2026 Turkey Active Fault Map Updated
The General Directorate of Mineral Research and Exploration (MTA) published the 2026 Turkey Active Fault Map following the earthquake.
MTA General Manager Vedat Yanık announced that the map was updated after 13 years as a result of detailed field studies and academic research.

First-Degree Risky Regions
İzmir, Balıkesir, Manisa, Muğla, Aydın, Denizli, Isparta, Uşak, Bursa, Bilecik, Yalova, Sakarya, Düzce, Kocaeli, Kırşehir, Bolu, Karabük, Hatay, Bartın, Çankırı, Tokat, Amasya, Çanakkale, Erzincan, Tunceli, Bingöl, Muş, Hakkari, Osmaniye, Kırıkkale and Siirt are among the first-degree risky provinces.
Second-Degree Risky Regions
Tekirdağ, İstanbul, Bitlis, Kahramanmaraş, Van, Adıyaman, Şırnak, Zonguldak, Afyon, Samsun, Antalya, Erzurum, Kars, Ardahan, Batman, Iğdır, Elazığ, Diyarbakır, Adana, Eskişehir, Malatya, Kütahya, Ağrı and Çorum are in the second-degree risky group.
Third-Degree Risky and Least Risky Regions
Edirne, Sinop, Kastamonu, Ordu, Giresun, Artvin, Şanlıurfa, Mardin, Kilis, Gaziantep, Sivas, Gümüşhane, Bayburt, Kayseri, Yozgat, Ankara, Konya, Mersin and Nevşehir are third-degree risky regions. Sinop, Giresun, Trabzon, Rize, Artvin, Kırklareli, Ankara, Edirne, Adana, Nevşehir, Niğde, Aksaray, Konya and Karaman are among the least risky provinces.
