The Augusta University School of Computer and Cyber Sciences has received a $2 million grant from the National Science Foundation to provide scholarships to students and prepare them for careers in cybersecurity and artificial intelligence.

Project Details

The Augusta University School of Computer and Cyber Sciences received a $2 million grant from the National Science Foundation under the Scholarship for Service and Innovation in AI and Cybersecurity Education program. This award supports scholarships under the Augusta University Government-Ready Resilient Cyber AI Experts project.

Educational Program

In accordance with project requirements, participating undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students are required to take at least four cybersecurity and two artificial intelligence courses. The aim is to address artificial intelligence both as a tool that strengthens cybersecurity and as a technology that must be protected.

Updating the Curriculum

Faculty members are restructuring course content by adding an artificial intelligence component even to courses that are not normally focused on artificial intelligence. Thus, students have the opportunity to examine how the technology impacts areas such as governance and personal security.

Scholarships and Financial Support

The program provides financial support covering tuition fees for up to three years. Additionally, undergraduate students receive an annual scholarship of $27,000, while graduate students receive $37,000.

Work Obligation and Applications

Students receiving scholarship support are required to work at a U.S. federal executive agency after graduation for a period equal to the time they received the scholarship. Applications for the first AUGER CyberAI cohort have opened, with approximately seven students planned to be admitted in the first term.
