The University of North Texas received a significant financial backing of $20 million from Anuradha and Vikas Sinha to strengthen its work in artificial intelligence and data science.
Establishment of the Artificial Intelligence College
The University of North Texas received a $20 million donation from Anuradha and Vikas Sinha to strengthen the position of artificial intelligence on its campus. With this donation, the Anuradha and Vikas Sinha College of Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Analytics will be established.
Academic Programs and Structure
The new college will focus on the responsible use and development of artificial intelligence, intelligent systems, and data analytics. Operating in partnership with the university's Office of the President, the institution will shape its academic programs around applied intelligence and information sciences.
Donors' Perspectives
Vikas Sinha, who completed his doctorate in data science from the same university in 2023, emphasized that artificial intelligence is one of the most defining technologies of the generation. The Sinha couple stated that thanks to this college, students will not only be taught how to use artificial intelligence.
New Institute and Research Activities
The university also plans to establish an Institute for Applied Artificial Intelligence and Data Science within its structure. This institute will support interdisciplinary research, provide shared infrastructure, secure external funding, and establish industry partnerships.
Endowment Funds
The $20 million financial support provided will establish six different endowment funds to support college leadership, student scholarships, professorship positions, entrepreneurship, incubators, advanced research, and emerging technologies.
Scope and Inclusive Areas
The new academic unit to be established will bring together many different programs under a single roof, such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data science, health informatics, library science, and learning technologies.
