Personal AI agents such as Meta's Muse, Instinct, and ChatGPT's Dots are being blocked by websites while performing tasks like flight booking and shopping on behalf of users.

The Rise of AI Agents and Encountered Hurdles

Personal AI agents are initiating a new wave of performing tasks such as booking flights and executing grocery shopping on behalf of users. However, consumers are experiencing issues with websites blocking artificial intelligence from completing tasks.

Platforms' Grounds for Blocking and Measures

Amazon has begun preventing Meta's AI agent, Muse, from browsing catalogs and making purchases. While some blockages are intentional, others stem from traditional anti-bot measures designed for spam protection.

Collaborations and the Search for Industry Standards

A Walmart spokesperson stated that these blockages were not intentional and that they have a partnership with Muse. Industry stakeholders are working on an open standard for agent-to-agent communication in online commerce to distinguish good bots from bad ones.

Different Approaches and Policies of Companies

Delta emphasized that it has no partnership for third-party AI agents, while United pointed out its terms of use prohibiting unauthorized automated devices. Platforms like Yelp and eBay restrict unauthorized agents and automated web scraping operations.
