Model Context Protocol Support
Google announced the launch of the early access period for its Model Context Protocol server as of Tuesday.
Compatible AI Assistants
This system enables any AI assistant that supports the Model Context Protocol standard, such as Claude, Hermes, OpenClaw, ChatGPT, and Google Antigravity, to work securely with smart home devices.
Smart Home Control via Natural Language
Users will be able to give natural language instructions to AI to review camera summaries, monitor smart home activities, control connected devices, and create custom smart home dashboards.
Connection Setup Process
For setup, users will need to create a Google Cloud project and configure it to use Home MCP, then forward the configuration details to their chosen assistant to complete the sign-in and permission steps.
Supported Device Models
The system will support all devices in the Google Home ecosystem, including Google Nest doorbells and thermostats, as well as Matter-compatible products such as light bulbs.
Subscription and Usage Terms
Access has begun rolling out gradually to users in the United States who have a Google Home Premium Advanced subscription priced at twenty dollars per month.
