Launched on the 94th anniversary of Language Day on September 26, the artificial intelligence and corpus-based dictionary 'bitigçi' tracks the evolution of Turkish, past patterns, and newly generated words in daily life.

Establishment of the Bitigçi Dictionary

Meaning clerk and writer in Karakhanid Turkic, bitigçi was opened to access on the 94th anniversary of September 26 Language Day.

Artificial Intelligence and Corpus Base

Prepared under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Şükrü Halûk Akalın by Tahir Tahiroğlu and Lect. Sinan Yalçınkaya, the platform distills texts from books, articles, theses, and news sources.

Daily Usage and New Words

The dictionary points out that new usages emerging on social media—such as booing (yuha çekmek), ghosting (ghostlamak), leaving on read (görüldü atmak), and contempt (horgörü)—could turn into tomorrow's vocabulary.

Fast Update Process

This artificial intelligence-based platform continuously opens words, meanings, and changing usages to observation, adding a new word in an average of two minutes and 48 seconds.

TDK's New Studies

Turkish Language Association President Prof. Dr. Osman Mert announced that they are working on a new dictionary and a large language model projected to contain over 800,000 words in order to protect Turkish.

Expanded Scope Target

Stating that the current Turkish Dictionary contains approximately 132,000 words, Mert said they aim to comprehensively record Turkish used in different branches of science and cultural fields as well.
