This software not only generates fictional languages but also helps preserve languages facing the threat of extinction.
Development Process of the Software
Morris Alper, who works at the University of Miami, states that he has been interested in inventing languages since his childhood and wondered how artificial intelligence could be used in this process.
Realizing that existing artificial intelligence tools fell short in this regard, Alper designed the Conlang Crafter framework, which collaborates with artificial intelligence to produce new languages.
Three Main Stages of Language Generation
Stating that the hardest part of the software was understanding the requirements of language creation, Alper divided the process into approximately three steps: sounds, grammar, and words.
These steps ensure the integration of rules into the system, such as clicking sounds in South African languages or word order differences between Japanese and English.
Preservation of Endangered Languages
The Conlang Crafter software not only produces fictional languages but also contributes to keeping languages at risk of disappearance alive.
According to data from the language intelligence research center Ethnologue, there are more than 3,000 endangered languages in the world, and this software can offer a solution by following translation rules.
Unusual and Impossible Languages
The software can generate systems that normally seem impossible, such as languages containing no consonants and consisting solely of vowels.
Additionally, it can design special fictional communication systems that allow octopuses to communicate with each other using color and movement instead of sound.
