AI Startup Healthleap Raises $38 Million in Funding
The platform, which uses artificial intelligence to detect undiagnosed conditions in hospitalized patients, continues its growth with seed and Series A investments.
AI-based health startup Healthleap has secured $38 million in funding to develop its platform, which analyzes inpatient medical records to identify conditions that are difficult to diagnose early, such as malnutrition and delirium.
Details of the Investment Round
Healthleap raised a total of $38 million in funding through seed and Series A financing rounds. The $8 million seed round was co-led by Sequoia Capital and First Round Capital, while the $30 million Series A round was led by Hummingbird Ventures. The company is not disclosing its valuation.
Foundation and Development of the Startup
Founded in South Africa in 2022 by siblings Jemima and Josiah Meyer, the startup initially offered a clinical nutrition tool. It later evolved into a general-purpose platform that detects undiagnosed conditions in hospitalized patients at an early stage.
Working Principle of the AI System
The developed platform integrates into hospitals' electronic health record systems. Using language models, it combines information from clinician notes with structured data such as lab reports and findings to highlight patients who require detailed examination.
Usage in Hospitals and Goals
Healthleap software is currently active in more than fifty hospitals, including Penn Medicine, Cedars-Sinai, Intermountain, Houston Methodist, and Emory Healthcare. The new funding will be allocated to engineering, product development, sales, and customer success.
